The Backyard Ultra run is an endurance race in which runners complete a 6.7 kilometre course every hour – until there is only one person left.
I had the pleasure of accompanying and capturing the determination of a real power woman, Elisabeth, at the Austria Backyard Ultra in Kirchschlag near Linz.
She once again lived up to the athlete slogan we gave her: ‘happiest athlete in the world’, because no matter how late and exhausting, she always had a smile on her face.
The start took place in Kirchschlag at 09:00 and Elisabeth not only fought her way through a scorching hot summer’s day, she also stayed on course until midnight and completed the 100 kilometres!
… and until the bitter end: a smile remained!
Her journey at the Backyard Ultra shows impressively that true strength does not lie in victory, but in picking yourself up again and again and carrying on. Chapeau!
